Between 1990 and 2022, the warming effect on our climate caused by the release of greenhouse gases (GHG) <g id=\"gid_0\">increased by 49%<\/g>. And it\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/news-release\/greenhouse-gases-continued-to-increase-rapidly-in-2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">still rising<\/a>.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of this damage \u2013 nearly 80% \u2013 is caused by the release of <a href=\"https:\/\/wmo.int\/news\/media-centre\/greenhouse-gas-concentrations-hit-record-high-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Carbon dioxide (CO2)<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A huge proportion of CO2 emissions are caused by industry, with fossil fuel consumption, transport, manufacturing and construction <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/emissions-by-sector#:~:text=Electricity%20and%20heat%20production%20are,similar%20materials)%2C%20and%20agriculture.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">topping the list<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecoonline.com\/en-ca\/esg-software\/carbon-accounting-software\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecoonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/24ab7fbf-6f4c-4b27-a6f4-4a2a520925e0-4.webp\" alt=\"24ab7fbf-6f4c-4b27-a6f4-4a2a520925e0.png\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifestylecalculator.com\/doconomy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">emissions calculator<\/a> I analysed my own annual carbon footprint; an estimated 6.5 tonnes of CO2 per year (with my biggest contributors being shopping and home energy, closely followed by food).
