The power to the fixtures had not been turned off and the employee experienced an electric shock, after which he fell from the ladder and struck his head.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/ords\/imis\/establishment.inspection_detail?id=1493176.015\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">OSHA investigation<\/a> found that the <strong>employee had not been properly trained in hazardous electrical work<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another case, well known confectionary manufacturer Hostess Brands <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/news\/newsreleases\/region5\/06162023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">faces a fine<\/a> of up $298,000 following an incident in which an employee suffered the amputation of a fingertip in December 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OSHA investigated and found the employer <strong>did not train workers on lockout\/tagout procedures<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Common safety training challenges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>There are challenges that come along with providing high-quality <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecoonline.com\/en-us\/blog\/why-is-safety-training-important\/\">safety training<\/a>. This makes it difficult to assess whether training programs are making an impact and reducing safety events.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Separate systems also make it difficult for management to identify possible knowledge gaps. This can lead to training programs that do not fit the current needs of employees and that don\u2019t address the specifics risks they face.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the administrative burden of disparate systems is a significant pain point for employers. Management also must keep up with training expiration dates and arrange for refresher training.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a time-consuming task for training managers, involving potentially thousands of documents in multiple locations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-6c531013 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<p>How can organizations mitigate the risk posed by these challenges? Is the software easy to navigate? Can it be accessed via mobile for employees to complete at their convenience?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The format of training that is provided is also key. Multi-modal learning (videos, quizzes, real-world scenarios) encourages engagement with subject matter. Classroom-based lectures aren\u2019t effective for every training course, so it\u2019s best to have a wide range of possibilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>#3 Integrate your EHS and LMS&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Integrating your EHS and LMS gives you a much greater understanding of training impact.
