E-CO Energi is a Norwegian power company and the second largest producer of electricity in Norway. They produce enough renewable energy to supply half of all Norwegian households with electricity, roughly 2.8 million people.
Founded in 1892, E-CO Energi has been a client of EcoOnline for over 10 years. Its core activities are the ownership and management of hydropower plants and development of new renewable power projects. E-CO Energi is owned by Hafslund AS, which itself is owned by the city of Oslo.
EcoOnline gives E-CO Energi a good overview of the number of substances, and the system helps us keep the number of chemicals down to a reasonable level.”.

Manual processes struggling to keep up
Keeping track of chemicals in the workplace in high – regulation markets can be very challenging.
In Norway, under the ‘Regulations concerning the Performance of Work’, employers are required to create and maintain a chemical inventory (known as a substance index) for hazardous chemicals.
Businesses like E-CO Energi are also subject to international rules such as CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) and REACH.
Before EcoOnline, E-CO Energi was using manual means such as ring binders to track their hazardous chemicals and store safety documentation. Manual processes made it increasingly difficult to ensure the most up-to-date information was available, for example in sourcing safety data sheets.

Total overview and understanding of risk
Since introducing EcoOnline the team at E-CO Energi has a much better overview of the use of chemicals and associated risks.
The system has ensured that they always have up-to-date safety data sheets, with no manual sourcing required. Now, they can generate useful reports in relation to their inventory, chemical risk assessments, chemical exposure and more. They also have a chemical safety manager per location/department who keeps the documentation up to date.
System notifications enable E-CO Energi to keep on top of admin work and alert them when action is needed (e.g. new SDS, need for new risk assessment, automatic exposure warnings, etc.), making work easier and less time-consuming.
Crucially, E-CO Energi found the customer service provided by EcoOnline to be enormously beneficial. Any questions, improvement suggestions or comments are rapidly dealt with by their dedicated customer contact.
