From limited data to clear, actionable safety insights
The Safety Standards team at Menzies Aviation faced a key challenge: getting a complete view of safety and security data.
“The system we originally used was an in-house, but it was very limited. We needed something cloud-based. EcoOnline enabled us to reach more people and record more incidents. We could analyse the data easily and find where the problem areas are, and fix them. EcoOnline helps us do that.” said Malcolm Rae, Head of Risk Systems & Data.
Analytics revealed where hazards originated and their root causes, allowing the team to take targeted action. They also empowered frontline employees to report hazards as they spotted them, so the business could react quickly and reduce risk across other locations.
From missed incidents to a complete safety picture
The introduction of EcoOnline’s EHS solution in 2019 enabled the team to take a more proactive approach to safety.
Graham and his team now get a 360-degree view of all hazards. They and their regional colleagues create dashboards, reports, and graphs to understand trends, spot potential threats, and alert stakeholders to manage mitigation programmes effectively.

When incident reporting is handled manually, it leaves room for human error. Before EcoOnline, about 30% of incidents were going unreported, which meant it was impossible to get an accurate view of workplace safety.
“Historically, incident reporting was done manually. It’s never great,” said Darren Beamer, Head of Cargo. “You end up capturing 70% of the data and then you are still reliant on somebody to follow through the process, so some can get missed.”
EcoOnline’s cloud-based solution makes it easy for employees to take an active role in managing their safety. By making incident reporting frictionless, employee engagement is improved and Menzies get a complete picture of where safety stands.
Mobile reporting that drives safer outcomes
Since using EcoOnline’s EHS software, there has been an increase in hazard reporting and a decrease in serious incidents.
Menzies employees conduct ad-hoc hazard inspections using mobile devices. They simply identify the hazard, take a photo, fill in relevant notes, and submit it electronically.
We can see a year on year reduction in incidents, which is a great achievement. EcoOnline helps us an awful lot.

Dashboards that reveal safety trends
“Dashboards easily identify trends,” said Charlene Warren, Risk Analyst and Systems Support Specialist. “Any slips, trips, near misses, or falls are logged into a dashboard and we can establish where the trends are to help teams identify their risks.”
The team can drill down into data at all levels ranging from region, sub-region, to station, and individual business unit. Alerts notify team members by email or text, depending on their role and location.
With a clear view of the data, key stakeholders within Menzies Aviation can quickly manage threats and put corrective actions in place to keep operations and people safe.
All dashboards update automatically, no matter where team members are. For example, if an incident occurs at an airport in Australia, Malcolm in the UK sees the update instantly.
