“The move to the platform has been a success - the system is intuitive and easy to use, and the support of the team has been excellent. I particularly value the way the team tries to put themselves in our shoes to understand our reporting needs.”

Science-based targets are in place to limit global warming melting iceberg half under water

Science-based targets are just around the corner. What’s your plan?

Achieving your near-term science-based targets is no longer a can you can kick down the road. They must be met within 5-10 years.

So, what does that mean for your organisation?

Well, scopes 1 and 2 GHG emissions must not exceed a temperature rise of 1.5°C. While scope 3 emissions must remain well below 2°C.

This is just the tip of the reporting iceberg.

After that, you have long-term science-based targets. Plus, the Corporate Net-Zero Standard. Both of which must be fulfilled no later than 2050.

Imagine the panic if you realise close to the deadline that you don’t have the required knowledge to achieve them. Or even worse, you’ve made errors with manual systems or used an ineffective tool.

Not acting today could lead to negative media attention further down the line. Think what that would do to the confidence of investors.

Is this really a situation you can afford to find yourself in?

Calculating your science-based targets is easier with experts

Access built-in experts, whenever you need

Let our analysts take the reporting weight off your shoulders. They have years of carbon accounting and target-setting experience, so you can save time you’d otherwise have spent trying to calculate complex emissions.

Make it easy to track your progress toward both near and long-term science-based targets through interactive and customisable data visualisations.

Cement trust from investors and the public by working with experts on Science-Based Targets

Leave the heavy lifting of climate reporting to the experts. By placing your trust in us, you can rest assured in the fact that you will be producing reports that auditors, customers, and your investors can trust.

When you work towards aligning with the Science- Based Target Initiative (SBTi), you are casting a vote for a more sustainable future and positioning your organisation as an industry leader within sustainability.

Frequently asked questions

What are Science-Based Targets?

Founded in 2015, the Science-based Targets Initiative (SBTi) created a set of Science-based Targets (SBT) to encourage businesses to set science-based emission reduction targets based on climate science.

Who is behind the SBTi?

The Science Based Targets Initiative Network (SBTi) is a collaboration of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), World Resources Institute (WRI), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and UN Global Compact.

What is the Corporate Net-Zero Standard?

The Corporate Net-Zero Standard was released by the SBTi in 2021. It was designed for companies with 500 employees or more to set targets to align with global carbon budgets by 2050.

The framework aims to keep companies on track within the 1.5-degree temperature increase limit set by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

How do Scopes 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions relate to Science-based Targets?

To meet SBTi’s scopes 1 and 2 targets you are required to report at least 95% of your global greenhouse gas emissions inventory.

According to the SBTi, if scope 3 emissions compose over 40% of your total emissions (scope 1, 2 and 3), the company must set scope 3 near-term targets that collectively cover at least 67% of scope 3 emissions.

What is a Sector-based approach?

This gives different sectors of the economy a different route depending on that sector’s emissions reduction targets and time frames. However, not all sectors have had sector specific guidance and a pathway developed for them yet.

What is an Absolute-based approach?

This approach requires all sectors of the economy to decarbonise equally. Developing reduction targets using the absolute-based approach allows for easier communication and recalculation as the climate science develops.

What is an Economic-based approach?

This approach uses a company’s gross profit as a share of global GDP to set an emission budget pathway from global decarbonisation. This approach can be difficult to communicate but takes into account the fluid nature of the global economy.
